Activity Summary

The geographical condition of the island of Java currently reflects geological processes that mostly occur in the neogen period. However, geological events that occurred before the period, specifically at pre-tertiaryà ¢ â,¬â € ™ paleogen, also plays an important role in the evolution of geology and geography of Java. In pre-tertiaryà ¢ â,¬â € ™ paleogen, there was a significant geological event and changes in the condition of Java Geography. Therefore, the study of paleogen-aged rocks has an important role in efforts to reconstruct the paleogeography of Java's paleogeography. Although its existence is very important, the spread of rock outcrops in the age of paleogen on Java, especially West Java, is very limited. The thickness is quite thick, more than 700 m (Baumann, 1972), from the paleogen-aged rock formation, found in several locations such as in the Bayah and Mountain Regions. The outcrop of this rock is part of the bayah formation consisting of quartz sandstones, conglomollatan and batulempung sandstones, with coal insertion (Martodjojo, 1984). Besides the limited spread of rock outcrops, the discovery and analysis of fauna fossils and flora from the bayah formation are also very few. Therefore, the addition of new knowledge and analysis, especially with the approaches of macro and micro paleontology, will be carried out in this study to reconstruct paleogen paleogenography in western Java. The results of this study are also expected to contribute to the relevant scientific development and provide the latest information about the ancient flora and fauna from the formation of the bayah. This information can then be used as a correlation point with other areas aged in the same age in Java, so that the history of geology and paleogeography of Java islands can be reconstructed more comprehensively.
