Activity Summary

In this 2018 ITB research program we submitted a research topic on the monitoring of non-aqueous phase Liquid (DNAPL) dense pollutants in groundwater aquifers using the self-potential measurement method (SP). This research consists of two parts: (1) creating a physical model of the aquifer system and intrusion pollutants in the laboratory, and (2) designing the configuration of the time-based SP measuring instrument to use in the physical model. This measurement on this physical model is important because it will be used as a reference for the development of SP measurement methods in the actual field, as well as the application to mitigate groundwater pollution due to industry exchanges that are important for the supply of drinking water and irrigation of agricultural land. The design of this time-based SP tool is designed to resemble an electroencephalography (EEG) tool on medical physics because of the equation of electrical response behavior in the human body with the behavior of fluid flow underground. Because of this similarity, the research objectives indirectly bridges the scientific scientific and physical physics.
