Kidney failure is a disease that often occurs in patients suffering from other degenerative diseases such as hypertension, diabetes, or in patients who are accepting anticancer chemotherapy. So far, there has been no drug that specifically mechanimates to treat kidney failure. Tempuyung leaves (Sonchus Arvensis L.) are used as traditional Indonesian people to deal with various diseases and one of them to overcome hypertension with a diuretic mechanism. In this research that had been done before, the use of Tempuyung leaf extract showed a diuretic effect on experimental animals (Muhtadi, 2016). In this study also obtained data on repairing kidney function from Tempuyung leaves on kidney failed animal modeling. Animal induced kidney failure uses nephrotocic agents namely gentamicine and high-dose pyroxy. Then parameter measurements are made to see the improvement of the kidney function. Tempuyung leaf ethanol extract can be developed into standardized herbal medicine. Based on the claims of its efficacy, Indonesian herbal medicines consist of 3 categories, namely: herbal medicine (based on empirical use), standard herbal medicine (efficacy and security must be pronveniently proven and the raw material is standardized), and phytopharmaca (clinical claims testable). The community uses Tempuyung extract for a wide range of diseases, among others, for a decrease in blood pressure through a diuretic mechanism. Therefore, in this study there will be a review of the mechanism of improving kidney function from the Tempuyung leaf ethanol extract that is expected to be an alternative treatment for kidney failure sufferers.
